David Restrepo Amariles is a Professor of Artificial Intelligence and Law and holder of the Worldline Chair on the Future of Money at HEC Paris. He is also Director of the Centre on the Future of Money and Digital Assets and leads the Smart Law Hub.
As a Hi! PARIS Fellow for the 2023-2026 period, he conducts research at the intersection of artificial intelligence, law and digital transformation.
His Hi! PARIS Fellowship project, entitled Cross-jurisdictional AI Methods for Civil Law Court Decisions, focuses on the development of multilingual AI methods designed for civil law jurisdictions.
The project aims to address the current gap in legal AI, where many existing models are based on common law systems and are not fully adapted to the specific features of civil law traditions. By exploring how AI models can be transferred across jurisdictions sharing similar legal structures and languages, the project seeks to support tasks such as anonymization, argument mining, predictive justice and legal explainability.
