Stephan Clémençon is a Full Professor and Teacher-Researcher in Applied Mathematics at Télécom Paris, within the Image, Data and Signal department and the LTCI laboratory. He is also a Hi! PARIS Fellow for the 2025-2028 period.
His research focuses on machine learning, stochastic processes, and nonparametric statistics. He also works on stochastic modeling and applied statistics in a wide range of fields, including quantitative finance, biosciences, signal processing, and image processing. He is the head of the S2A research team and holds the AI4I chair. He was also in charge of the Big Data master’s program at Télécom Paris from 2013 to 2021 and has contributed to several industrial chairs in machine learning, data science, and AI for digitalized industry and services. Before joining Télécom Paris, he worked at Paris X University and INRA Met@risk. He holds a PhD in Applied Mathematics from Université Paris 7 Denis Diderot.
His Hi! PARIS fellowship project focuses on developing new distributed machine learning algorithms that are more adaptive, robust, and computationally frugal. In a context where edge computing and energy efficiency are becoming central challenges for AI, the project aims to design algorithms that reduce unnecessary data exchanges, adapt to the structure of the data and the network, and remain reliable even when data is contaminated or when weak signals need to be detected.
