Biography

Luiz Chamon is Assistant Professor and Hi! PARIS Chair holder at the Centre for Applied Mathematics of École polytechnique for the 2025-2027 period. His research focuses on the mathematical foundations of intelligent systems, with the goal of designing AI methods that can learn from data while respecting clear requirements such as fairness, robustness, safety and scientific consistency.

His Hi! PARIS Chair project focuses on requirement-driven learning, an approach that places constraints at the core of machine learning rather than treating them as secondary considerations. By combining optimization, control theory and signal processing, his work aims to build more reliable, transparent and trustworthy AI systems that can better serve human and societal needs.
