Biography

Ioannis Stefanou is Professor at ENSTA, and researcher at the Institute of Mechanical Sciences and Industrial Applications. He leads the Geomechanics group at IMSIA and is a Hi! PARIS Chair holder for the 2024-2027 period.

His Hi! PARIS Chair project focuses on AI-powered underground energy systems, with applications in deep geothermal energy, CO₂ storage and hydrogen storage. By combining artificial intelligence, mechanics and physics, his research aims to develop more reliable and explainable models to better understand and control complex underground systems, supporting the energy transition and sustainable development.
