Biography

Roland Rathelot is a Professor of Economics at ENSAE Paris, Institut Polytechnique de Paris, and CREST. He is an applied microeconometrician whose research combines large-scale administrative and online data with econometric and data science methods to study how individuals and firms make search decisions.

His work focuses in particular on labor markets, job search behavior, and matching between workers and employers. By using detailed data from online job platforms, he studies how recommendation systems and algorithmic tools can support job seekers, improve matching outcomes, and help evaluate their impact on both sides of the market.

Roland Rathelot is a Hi! PARIS Chair Holder for the 2021-2024 period with the project “Leveraging Data Science to Improve Matching on Labor Markets.” This project explores how data science and econometrics can be used to better understand search behavior and design tools that improve individual and collective welfare.

Through this work, he contributes to the development of new empirical methods for labor economics and to a better understanding of how digital platforms can influence matching, mobility, and decision-making in labor markets.
